FONTFROIDE

Founded at the end of XI century .

 Affiliated with the order of Cîteaux in 1145, Fontfroide was an active bastion of orthodoxy during the Crusade against the Albigensians.

LAGRASSE

Borough rich in fortifications and medieval houses around its market of XIV century, and the old bridge.  

Lagrasse is especially known for its Benedictine abbey

 Residence of summer of the archbishop of Narbonne to the Middle Ages, it is one of the rare castles built at the bottom of the valley.

 3) Cities and Twons

CARCASSONNE

City médiévale entirely restored by Viollet Le Duc.  

It presents a double line of ramparts, flanked of 26 towers each one:  

 the interior enclosure (1.100 m) and the external enclosure (1.500 m).

NARBONNE et PERPIGNAN

 4) The African reserve

The reserve

 It lodges more than 3.800 animals on nearly 300 hectares.

  It is located between Narbonne and Perpignan , on the Mediterranean coast and in edge of the ponds which mark out the Languedocien littoral. 

  It is a semi-natural animalist park sufficiently vast so that the animals remain wild and express their natural behaviors fully.

   As a zoological establishment, the Reserve gave itself 4 objectives:   

- to preserve for the future generations the animal species in the process of disappearance,   

- to add something to the human knowledge in the field of wild fauna,   

- to contribute to a better knowledge of wild fauna and interdependences between the animals and their mediums,   

- to offer to the visitors the pleasure of the spectacle of the wildlife.      

 

        

 

 

 

 

 5) Sea and ponds

The ponds with the pink flaments are located between SIGEAN and NARBONNE

The town of BAGES is pariculary touristic.( to 30 min).

At the sea, (to approximately 50 min of road) , in addition to the beautiful sand beaches, there is a oyster center  with the oyster tasting on the spot, by the producers  at LEUCATE.

 

6) The "Canal du Midi"

 7) Elsewhere

The Spanish border is 1 hour from road. (DALI with Figueras and neighbourhood in particular).  

The Pyrenees (the CANIGOU) at approximately 2 hours.  

Andorra is at 3 hours of road.
